Discovering Yourself

You can find evidence to support anything you believe about yourself.  So you might as well believe you can achieve your most outlandish goals.

TOMORROW.

Imagine a redefining moment. A moment when you feel more yourself than you have ever felt in your entire life. How happy you are.

Tomorrow will be my moment.

I read when you have writers block that you should write about what is weighing hardest on your heart.  Honestly, over the past 7 months I have had writers block.

You see, you can run from who you are, but you can’t run from the things that make you feel most alive.  This goes for anything that is yours.

For the first time in a really long time, I am not embarrassed to say I love to run.  You can say I post a lot about running but you don’t know how much it has saved me.

Tomorrow marks a time in my journey that is indescribable.  I have came a long way to get to this moment.  I’ve put so much work in to get to tomorrow.

In the last few months I’ve had to change mentally, I’ve had to change my heart, and I’ve had to change my life.  I’ve been picked up multiple times by people that love me.  And, I’ve come through stronger.

I’ve undermined my outlet for life the past few years.  So, the last few months I have found myself. I’ve ran my heart out. I’ve laughed and I’ve cried on runs. I’ve been beaten down.  I’ve been unlovable because I run.  I’ve stood my ground. I’ve planned my comeback during that alone time.

So, tomorrow I toe that line with a content heart.  Of who I used to be and who I have become.  Of how I have changed. And how proud of myself for making it through a time I didn’t know I could survive.

No matter how tomorrow goes…

I am so happy to be a RUNNER.

SPOTLIGHT

Last day of my marathon series and I am soooo happy to introduce my TN roomie, Kelsie!! She was a God sent friend and a humbly incredible athlete.  She is a professional pole vaulter, Rio ’16 driven, and today her words of wisdom have confirmed knowing her is an inspiration!!

Audrey: What does determination mean to you?

Kelsie: Being stubborn about your goals having a firm belief you will reach them.

A: What motivates you everyday to work towards your goals?

K: The simple thought of reaching them – once a goal is planted in my head, I can’t help but attack it with my entire being. I’m addicted to pushing my own limits and working towards excellence in my event.

A:  What is your current playlist jam?

K: When it comes to pump-up jams, I’m all about the lyrics. Current fave: “Impossible is Nothing” by Iggy Azalea (even though I’m not much of an Iggy fan).

“Keep on living, keep on breathing, Even when you don’t believe it, Keep on climbing, keep on reaching ,Even when this world can’t see it, No, impossible is nothing, Even when you don’t believe it, Impossible is nothing, Even when this world can’t see it, Impossible is nothing”

A: What is the best advice you have ever been given in regards to pole vault?

K:  “Pole vault is not who you are, it is simply something you do.” As athletes, we can get so wrapped up in our sport that we forget what it really is – a sport. I try to have the perspective that my performance does not determine my self-worth and my identity extends beyond just being an athlete.

A: What is your mindset going into this season?

K: Coming off an injury, I feel as though I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. This is a great place to be mentally – no anxiety or fear. I’m on a mission to prove I can be competitive with the best in the world!

A:  What is one of your favorite memories/proudest moments (in sport) to date?

K: My freshman year of high school, my soccer team beat the #1 ranked high school team in the nation to win the Regional Finals in the state of Ohio. Based on statistics, we shouldn’t have come close to matching our opponent’s level of play. We knew we were the underdogs but we used this position as an advantage. After a heavily defensive game, overtime play, AND a shootout, we did what we came to do… we defeated the odds and we won! The local papers called it a “Cinderella Story.” On that particular day, we were the better team, because WE BELIEVED we could win. This experience still inspires me today – I know the underdog can do something special because it is a story I have lived for myself.
